Freelance Web Developer (WordPress & ACF Specialist)

Job Summary

ChappellRoberts is seeking a mid-to-senior-level Web Developer with deep expertise in WordPress development, Advanced Custom Fields (ACF), and custom theme creation. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented developer who thrives on transforming Figma designs into fast, accessible, and scalable websites. You’ll work closely with designers, UX specialists, and other developers to create high-performing web experiences that minimize reliance on third-party plugins while maintaining flexibility for content management.

This position is a remote position. There may be occasional times where an in-person meeting is required.

Essential Duties and Functions

  • Convert Figma-based desktop and mobile designs into pixel-perfect, responsive WordPress websites.
  • Develop custom WordPress themes with Advanced Custom Fields (ACF) to provide intuitive content management while reducing plugin dependency.
  • Collaborate with design and UX teams to implement creative solutions while maintaining clean, maintainable code.
  • Ensure high-performance, scalable, and SEO-optimized website builds.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues identified during QA testing and user acceptance testing (UAT).
  • Implement custom API integrations for third-party services when needed.
  • Ensure sites meet WCAG AA accessibility standards for inclusive user experiences.
  • Maintain and optimize websites for performance, security, and best practices.
  • Work within a Git-based version control workflow (BitBucket preferred) to manage code deployments and team collaboration.
  • Stay current with modern development trends, emerging WordPress technologies, and front-end best practices.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 5+ years of professional web development experience.
  • Expertise in WordPress custom theme development, including Advanced Custom Fields (ACF) and WordPress REST API.
  • Proficiency in HTML, CSS (SASS/LESS), PHP, JavaScript (ES6+), and MySQL.
  • Strong understanding of AJAX, JSON, and API integrations.
  • Experience with Git-based code hosting and version control (BitBucket preferred).
  • Familiarity with on-page SEO best practices and performance optimization.
  • Ability to build accessible websites that meet WCAG AA guidelines.
  • Strong debugging and problem-solving skills, with experience using Chrome DevTools and other debugging tools.
  • Experience working within a collaborative, agile development environment.
  • Bonus: Experience with CraftCMS or other CMS platforms.
  • Bonus: Experience with modern JavaScript frameworks (Vue, React, Angular, or Svelte).
