What does Blade Runner, cyborgs and a good smelling handsome man have in common? Well, for one of our awesome millennial account executives it has the potential to make one stellar Old Spice commercial reboot. With Super Bowl TV spots on the brain, see how Megan thought we could reboot this series.
It’s the Old Spice commercials we’ve come to know and love. But, much like many shows, movies and novels that have taken pop culture by storm, there’s a futuristic dystopian twist. The spot is similar to the classic monologue but the charming face of Old Spice is replaced with a less attractive cyborg in the setting of a Blade Runner-like city.
His cold, robotic and unappealing monologue begins “Hello, humans, look at your male companion, now back to me, now back at your male companion, now back to me.” He holds up a new-age non-Old Spice body wash. “OBEY…OBEY…OBEY…”
He’s interrupted as the classic face of old spice swoops in on a flying old-timey pirate ship and blows him to pieces in a ridiculously dramatic explosion. Old Spice man looks to the camera, clears his throat, and begins his monologue as the scene is transformed to a tropical island ending on the final line: “Anything is possible when your man smells like a classic man and not a future…cyborg…thing. I’m on a horse.”
Paying off the theme, while new fads and brands come and go, Old Spice will always remain the best.
