At ChappellRoberts, we believe we’re the perfect mix of smart, switched on individuals who come together to create an award-winning combination. Let’s take a look at some of the people behind this lethal recipe for success.
Explain what your role entails at ChappellRoberts.
Writing words. Lots of them! I get to work on every big and little (no pun intended— I work on Big Brothers Big Sisters a lot) project from radio scripts to social posts. Sometimes it doesn’t look like I’m writing, but the playing darts on our magnetic board and doodling is a part of the process. You have to not think about writing to write. Weird, but effective.
Passion, creativity and a ridiculous amount of caffeine. Seriously the amount of coffee we go through is impressive, but it helps get the job done. But I really think passion is the core of it all. Everyone is always on fire and really into what they are working on because it is what they love to do. It’s awesome.
Who is one person you would love to collaborate with? Why? (This doesn’t have to be restricted to someone in the creative industry: a musician, actor, athlete etc.)
If I could collaborate with anyone, it would definitely have to be Bill Murray. He is such a crazy and out there, but truly genius, guy and I feel like he would have a lot to say that would totally #slay. Of course he’d end our conversation with, “No one will believe you.”
What would your advice be to someone wanting to pursue a career in the creative industry?
Don’t give up. Creativity can really kick you in the ass sometimes. It’s frustrating, tiring and can be your worst enemy, but at the end of the day it is worth every moment of kicking and screaming. The good is worth WAY more than the bad. There are no regrets with the creative industry, except maybe saving your file in the wrong place or with the wrong name. That file is gone forever!
Try and think of you most ‘wow’ moment at ChappellRoberts to date. What was it, and what made it so memorable?
My most ‘wow’ moment would have to be the 3 Daughters Brewing My Hero stories. It was a very empowering and impactful project to work on. Getting to speak with these amazing people and their families was very humbling, but even more so was translating them into these stories that would live online. The best and most rewarding part was getting the feedback from these heroes after the fact and seeing how proud and happy they were with the writing. It’s my dream to change people’s lives with my writing in some way, even if it’s just for a moment where someone says, “Wow, that is some killer writing.”
What’s a quote you live by?
“Be brave.” I have it tattooed on my arm as a constant reminder, and sometimes I do need it. It means a lot to me for very personal reasons, but when I’m feeling down, frustrated or timid, I just look down at it and change my attitude (well, most times).
